120+ years of care.

In early 1901 Ambrose Johnson opened a soda fountain in Rusk. In the fall of that year a drug and prescription department was added by Bud Odom. The next year Minton Moseley began studying the drug business with Bud Odom. In 1905 Bud and Minton bought the store from Mr. Johnson and named it Odom and Moseley’s Drug Store. In 1907 a new building was built on the square. In 1920 Mr. Odom sold his interest to Minton Moseley and the name was changed to Moseley’s Drug Store.

The Moseley Drug store was owned by Minton Moseley and his brother Dr. Elijah Marion Moseley. Both were beloved figures in the community. Dr. Elijah Marion Moseley used to travel to patients on horseback. He also served as Cherokee County health officer for 47 years. His brother Minton Moseley was a registered pharmacist and major presence running the drug store for many decades.

Like many pharmacies of the 20th century, it was a community hub. It was a popular spot for locals to grab a cold drink at the soda fountain counter, catch up on town news, or enjoy a sweet treat while they cooled off.

In 1972 the pharmacy officially changed it’s name to Mac’s Pharmacy, under the ownership of Bill Beck and D.C. McLaughlin. The duo changed the name again to Prescription Pharmacy in 1974.

In 1975 Greg Majors bought the pharmacy and continued to preserve the independent, family pharmacy legacy that the Moseley family started decades ago.

In 1991 Larry Mozingo bought Prescription Pharmacy. Larry studied pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. In 2001 a fire tore through the old pharmacy building and tragically destroyed the building. The soda fountain counter was salvaged and preserved in the Heritage Center Museum in Rusk. Larry moved the pharmacy just off the square, and was able to have it up and running in less than a week. Prescription Pharmacy is still at that location today.
